Process:
1. Small stomach pouch created by seperating the top portion of the stomach from the rest.
2. Small intestine is seperated and the lower half is connected directly to the new small stomach portion.
3. Top half of small intestine is connected back to lower half of small intestine for stomach acids to remix with food.
Advantages:

Sleeve Gastectomy
Often called "The Sleeve"
Process:
1. Removing about 80 precent of the stomach and when recloser is completed the remaining stomach looks like a banana.

Good gut hormone changes that reduce appetite and suppress hunger.

Adjustable Gastric Band
Sometimes called "Lap Band"
Process:
1. An inflatable band is placed around the upper portion of the stomach, creating a small pouch above the band.
2. Inflation of the band is done over a period of time, which slowly reduces the size of the stomach above the band.
Advantages:

No cutting of the stomach or re-routing of the intestine required.

Bilio pancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch Gastric Bypass
Abbreviated BPD/DS
Process:

Removal of a large portion of stomach and remaining stomach is closed, which then resembles a banana.

A large portion of small intestine is bypassed.

1st portion of small intestine is cut just past the stomach outlet.
-
Last portion of small intestine is connected to the new outlet at the bottom of the stomach.

The bypassed portion of the small intestine is then reconnected to the last portion of the small intestine in order to mix bile and pancreatic enzymes with food.

Advantages:

Greatest weight loss of all bariatric surgeries.

Reduces fat absortbed by 70% or more.
Disadvantages:

Long hospital stay

Greater chance of causing vitamine and mineral deficiences

Very strict need to follow dietary and vitamin supplement rules as well as go to all follow-up visits.

Types of Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric surgery is a surgery for people who suffer from severe obesity. The surgery helps people lose weight by resticting how much food they can eat and thus restricting their caloric intake.
Bariatic surgery is not meant to be a first option and it is usually only offered to patients that:

You may be considering having weight loss surgery because you feel loss in your struggle to lose weight. Do not feel alone. 30.5% of the population is considered to be obese, which means there are more people who are also considering weight loss surgery.
